PROJECT – Restoring a Yaesu FT-902DM

Yesterday locally someone was offering a FT-902DM with CW filter, works on RX only for Free, so I aim at getting it up and running on Transmit again. When the owner said it was mint, I thought, hmmmn maybe. But judge for yourself.

The Yaesu FT-902DM was originally manufactured as a contesters radio! it weighs a lot by todays modern standards at 18Kg. As you will see from the pictures below it covers 160m<10m including the WARC bands unlike the other 902 models this one includes the DC to DC converter for battery operation (cable included at time of purchase, and included here), a Curtiss Keyer built in, FM module and a Blower. This specific radio also has fitted with an optional CW filter at 600hz. The VFO is an upgraded version of the one used in the FT-101. This Radio was manufactured in October 1982 so is a relatively late model. Interestingly the ACC socket has a massive 2″ 12 pin socket, from what I can find out this gives direct information about what bands are being used and will switch filters in and out as well as connecting accessories such as my Linear Amps Hunter.
